Join Monica and Andrew of Drumming Sounds for a Solstice Frame Drum-Building Workshop!
๐ Date: December 22, 2024
๐ Time: 2:00 PM
๐ Location: Everything Just Rocks, 2235 W 1st St, Unit 104-105, Tempe, AZ 85281
Celebrate the Solstice by creating your very own frame drum, a sacred instrument with a rich history spanning cultures and continents. Choose from the following options:
14-inch deer hide drum with drumstick
14-inch elk hide drum
14-inch buffalo hide drum
For advanced drum builders, we also offer 16-inch versions of these drumsโperfect as a unique holiday gift!
The frame drum is one of the oldest instruments in human history, found in art and artifacts across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. It has been used by Jewish, Arab, Celtic, and indigenous North and South American communities for ceremonies, storytelling, and connection to the divine. In this workshop, we teach a non-culturally specific, ceremonial approach to drum-building, honoring the sacredness of the process without appropriating any specific tradition.
About the Facilitators
Andrew Ecker is an experienced cultural services provider at Native American Connections, a Native American drug and alcohol treatment facility. He began building drums as a suicide prevention initiative and has worked with the Havasupai, Hopi, and Navajo nations.
Monica Patton is a seasoned drum maker who connects deeply to her Celtic and Druid ancestors through this ancient art form. Together, Monica and Andrew have helped hundreds of people create drums, offering heartfelt guidance to anyone "birthing" their drum.
Whether you're new to drum-building or an experienced creator, this workshop provides everything you need to craft a powerful and meaningful instrument.
